Norwegian Flotilla Leads ST Tamandu Marine Patrol Visit to Compassionate Orphanage Home
By Our Correspondent
The banner said it plainly. Some call it charity. We call it humanity. For the members of ST Tamandu Marine Patrol who arrived at Compassionate Orphanage Home in Lagos carrying bags of rice, noodles, toiletries, bottled water, and assorted provisions, it was not a slogan. It was a statement of intent.
The visit, organised under the broader community service mandate of ST Tamandu Marine Patrol, was led by Flotilla Pilot Muhammed Abdullahi of the Norwegian Flotilla. Compassionate Orphanage Home is a registered facility under the Lagos State Government Ministry of Youth and Social Development, and the delegation arrived with a visible commitment to making the visit count beyond a handshake and a photograph.
Items donated on the day included bags of rice, cartons of noodles, toiletries, bottled water, and a range of household provisions. The consignment was formally received by the home’s registered manager, who expressed appreciation for the thoughtfulness of the visit and the practical nature of the items brought. She noted that donations of this kind, regular, organised, and delivered with genuine care, make a direct and immediate difference to the day-to-day running of the home.
What distinguished this visit within the wider ST Tamandu community was its origin. It was not a centrally directed activity. It was conceived and executed by Flotilla Pilot Muhammed Abdullahi, who mobilised the Norwegian Flotilla and made it happen. That distinction matters. It speaks to the kind of culture ST Tamandu Marine Patrol seeks to build, one where service is not confined to scheduled events but is initiated at every level of the organisation by members who understand what the mandate actually means.
Sailing Skipper Jubril Babatunde acknowledged the Norwegian Flotilla’s initiative publicly, commending Flotilla Pilot Muhammed Abdullahi for the visit and using the occasion to call on other flotillas within ST Tamandu Marine Patrol to take similar steps. The message was clear: Service to Humanity is not the exclusive responsibility of leadership. It belongs to every member, every flotilla, and every level of the patrol. When one flotilla shows what is possible, it raises the standard for all.
ST Tamandu Marine Patrol is the Lagos chapter of De Norsemen Kclub International, incorporated under RC 7458 and committed to community development, volunteer service, advocacy, and leadership. The visit to Compassionate Orphanage Home is part of a sustained programme of humanitarian activity that spans healthcare, education, and direct community support across Lagos.
Service, when it is genuine, does not wait for instructions. The Norwegian Flotilla did not wait. That is worth saying out loud.
